How laboratory materials should be stored
General storage principles for sealed research materials, and why temperature, light and moisture control matter.
General principles
Keep materials sealed in their original packaging until needed, protect them from direct light and moisture, and store them at the temperature range your laboratory specifies.
Refrigerated storage (2–8°C) is typical for many lyophilised materials held for laboratory use; longer retention is often at lower temperatures. Always follow your own laboratory's procedures and any product-specific guidance supplied.
Record keeping
Label containers clearly, record the batch number and date received, and keep any associated documentation with your inventory records so the material remains traceable.
