Temperature control and transit for laboratory materials
How temperature affects lyophilised materials in transit and storage, and good practice when receiving a delivery.
Why temperature matters
Many research materials are supplied lyophilised (freeze-dried) because the dry form is generally more stable than a solution. Even so, prolonged heat, moisture and light can affect quality over time.
On receipt
Inspect packaging for damage, check labels and batch numbers against your order, and move materials to the storage conditions specified on the label or documentation promptly.
Record keeping
Log the date received, batch number and storage location. Good records support traceability and help when reviewing results later.
